This website belongs to Tim Hammerton, a self-employed professional editor, project manager and content writer.
Throughout this policy, I/me refers to Tim Hammerton and you/your refers to the client receiving my services. We/us refers to me and the client.

Service privacy
Summary
I am committed to ensuring that your privacy and data are protected in accordance with GDPR. I am the sole controller and processor of data.
I will:
- only use data for the purpose you shared them
- not request or store unnecessary data
- hold data securely.
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), I am committed to its Membership Codes, including its Professional Practice Code. This includes the clauses on respecting the confidentiality of your material.
Types of information collected
Information collected (relating to the initial enquiry and/or subsequent project) via this website, email, telephone, online call or another source can include:
- name (individual and company)
- contact information (postal address, telephone, website address and/or email address)
- project information
- project files
- financial/invoicing information
- any details that you choose to supply.
Your personal data are collected and stored for the sole purpose of use within shared projects; they will never be used by me or passed to a third party for marketing purposes.
Financial information is not collected through this website. Invoices are sent to you by email.
Data storage
Your data may be stored or transferred on one or more of the following media:
- hard drives owned by me (laptop and/or backup drives)
- Dropbox
- Google Drive
- We Transfer
- Cloud Backup
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Microsoft’s Office 365
- my website’s service provider (Hostinger)
- hard-copy printouts.
My devices are password protected and used only by me. All software used by me is licensed and up to date.
Retention of data
I will keep your data indefinitely for administrative purposes (as this can be useful for any subsequent projects), unless a contractual date has been set or you ask me to delete them. I will not retain any sensitive data for longer than is necessary.
The CIEP Professional Practice Code recommends that all correspondence is retained for at least six month after teh completion of work.
If you supply information to obtain a quotation, but we decide not to progress the project, I will delete the material immediately.
I will retain the information collected in compliance with the law of England and Wales and for tax purposes – HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) requires data to be retained for five years after the 31 January Self Assessment submission date.
Rights to your data
You can request to see your data that I hold and/or request any changes/corrections in line with GDPR.
You can request that your data are erased. This does not include data that I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
Although appropriate precautions are taken, if there is a data breach, I will inform you immediately.
Website privacy
Comments
If you leave comments on the site, the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string are collected to help spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
After approval of your comment, any profile picture provided is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Contact Form
Any information you provide through the contact form is received by me via an email and contains no additional identifying data. A version is also collected and stored by the WP Forms plugin on this website.
Your email address will only be used to contact you.

If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
